Never alone

#TEAwithTope – Thoughts, Encouragement & Affirmations

By Tope Olotu

From being a little girl, I have always carried a quiet kind of belief, an inner assurance, gentle yet steady, that my life was being held by hands I could not see. Even when I had no physical evidence, no clear signs, no guarantees, there was always a small spark of optimism in my heart whispering that somehow, someway, things would work out… even when nothing made sense.

It all began to make sense, though, later as I grew older and also in my faith. The more I read from my favorite book, the more I understood that what I carried inside me wasn’t naïve optimism (it could feel like that sometimes), but it was faith. Faith, which Scripture calls “the substance of things hoped for” and “the evidence of things not seen.”

Sometimes it feels almost wild, because it is a belief without proof. It is holding onto something you cannot touch, measure, or explain (just yet). It is choosing to trust before you can see. It is living in the opposite direction of the world, where seeing is not believing, but believing is seeing.

As I look back over my journey—across the many seasons, countries, stages, and miracles—one truth rises louder than all the noise:

I have been prayed into every moment of my life.
I am not alone.
I have never been alone.

Walking through my conscious years—from elementary into high school—navigating friendships, insecurities, identity, expectations, and the quiet battles no one sees… I was not alone.

Growing up with a single mother, there were days we honestly didn’t know where the next meal would come from. But somehow, God always made a way. We were not alone.

Writing exams again just to be positioned for the University I dreamed of. The disappointment, the pressure, the waiting, the uncertainty—yet grace carried me. I was not alone.

Trying out a diploma first because the straight path wasn’t open yet… and still being guided, strengthened, and directed. I was not alone.

Being posted, like thousands of Nigerian youth, to an unknown part of the country for mandatory youth service, new land, new expectations, new risks…stepping into unfamiliar territory, with no guarantees. But even there, God went ahead of me. I was not alone.

Graduating from university for the first time, with no special connections, no roadmap, no promises of a job—only hope and prayer. I was not alone.

Walking into marriage without a model of what marriage should look like, no parents to show me how two people build a lasting home—but learning, growing, unlearning, forgiving, and building together with the kindest, most loving man I know… I was not alone. We were not alone. God has authored us, held us, refined us, and strengthened our union.

Parenting our wonderful children across cultures; guiding them, praying for them, nurturing their identity in a world that often tries to reshape it… I trust God daily to build them in faith, character, and confidence, and to keep them safe from the evil one… I am not alone. We are not alone.

Living, studying, and working in three different countries… reinventing myself each time… retelling my story… rebuilding confidence… showing up again and again as a dependable professional in unfamiliar spaces. I have never been alone. I am not alone.

Through health scares and surgery… when fear tried to take space in my heart and uncertainty threatened my peace… I am reminded again that I am not alone.

Daring to serve my community, showing up through initiatives and programs that I contribute to, stepping into spaces without always knowing how everything will unfold, I know this truth:

Not alone.
Never alone.
Never will

“Your life has never depended on your own strength alone.”

 Now let’s pause for T.E.A.

THOUGHT

Every chapter of your story—whether it felt heavy, uncertain, joyful, or unexpected—has already been touched by God’s hand.
What if you lived today with the confidence of someone who knows they have been spiritually escorted into every room?

Every place your feet have stepped, God stepped first.
Every season you’ve endured, His grace went ahead of you.
Every challenge you faced, His strength was already assigned.

ENCOURAGEMENT

Wherever you stand today—on the edge of a new season, in the middle of a challenge, or in the quiet space between answered prayers—know this:

You are covered.

You are carried.

You are protected.

You are surrounded.

Your life has never depended on your own strength alone.

God has always been near.

AFFIRMATION

Say it with me:

God goes before me.
I am covered in every season.
I have been prayed into every moment.
I am not alone.
I have never been alone.
And I never will be.

“I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

— Matthew 28:20

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”

— Isaiah 43:2
